Cleaning The Gulf No More; Prevent

Posted on June 6th, 2011 by Nick | Edit

We bring back this article to help reflect on last year’s oil spill event on the Gulf:

Non-renewable Energy (Oil)

If you have watched the news or read the newspaper in the last week or so, you know about the devastating “Oil Spill” near the Gulf Coast Region which is effecting tourism, commerce, and the coastline. However, most importantly it is effecting the animals as the pictures display above. This is a dirty way to produce energy, waste money and at the same time hurt the environment!

Renewable Energy (Solar and Wind Power)

Wind:

1. Rotating generator converts wind energy to electricity.
2. Transformer increases voltage for transmission to substation.
3. Substation increases voltage for transmission over long distances.
4. Transmission to the grid.

Solar:

1. Photovoltaic array converts solar energy to direct current electricity.
2. Inverter converts direct current to alternating current.
3. Breaker box provides an interconnection point to the consumer or grid.
4. Meter measures the energy from the solar array and the building load.

Renewable Energy on the other hand such as Wind or Solar is much cleaner, it doesn’t hurt the enivironment and it also can save everyone money! Going Green and Clean is the BEST way to go. Make the right choice and Go Green and Clean…do it for me, do it for yourself, do it for your children, do it for the poor little animals, and do it for the environment!! U.S depend less on oil

POSTED ON MAY 27TH, 2011 BY ALEX

Finally! This is a glimpse of what most of us hoped for. Even as often as we heard the chant “drill baby drill”, we are going to experience much less-dependent economic reflection on oil. The U.S energy department reported this week that in over a decade, United States dependence on imported oil fell below 50 percent. They claim this change in part of the weak economy (mainly ’08) and more production of fuel efficient vehicles.

I guess the next part is when those anticipated electric vehicles start hitting the road  - and the rest is a new revolution. No matter what measure, developments in sustainable efforts most often favor the conventional status quo. Sadly, some of these products and technology have existed, but was not trendy enough or given the fair exposure it deserved. So we can be grateful that there are star items like electric vehicles and solar power serving as the “poster” for these resources.

In the report, the Energy department goes on to project that this trend of less dependency will “…continue through the next decade due to improvements in energy efficiency and higher fuel economy standards.” So before anyone would assume that this result was largely contributed from the economic crisis or any offshore drilling expansion, understand that this reflection is drawn from overall U.S oil demand that is also evident from last year’s report.

Ironically, the present oil price displeasure is challenging our daily budget and future plans. Consequently, we may see reports contradicting the success of less dependency. But, hey, this may actually provoke a boost to fuel efficient vehicles sales. As reported, the waiting list for Nissan Leaf seems to be growing; and the Japan earthquake crisis won’t deter much of the its schedule to provide the demanded fleet of LEAF vehicles.

In another light, without any bias or political affiliation, this less dependency provides additional leverage in the expansion of offshore drilling debate in the capitol hill as well as  emphasize Obama administration strategies on tackling foreign oil dependency. We can infer that the benefits from this less dependency of oil is still accounting for more domestic improvement such as our success in petroleum products exports.

So this shift to energy efficiency is growing stronger and gradually changing the course of our economy. This would be one the smartest investments that is going to define the next decade and onwards in terms of efficient technology. I could imagine some of the electric car owners, grinning from ear to ear right now – blast!! Hopefully, we don’t have to wait much to own one or wait for these benefits to trickle down to “us” average consumers.

Winter Storm...Power Outages...Good time for Solar!

Winter Storm…Power Outages…Good time for Solar!

POSTED ON MAY 19TH, 2011 BY NICK | EDIT

The Blizzard of 2010 dumped 20+ incheson snow in the Washington,DC Metropolitan area leaving many without power. When there is no power there is a lack of other necessities such as HEAT and COMMUNICATION but you can be prepared next time. No I’m not talking about a stock pile of candles or flash lights nor generators…How about SOLAR. That’s RIGHT…Solar Power from the Sun. Solar power can make you INDEPENDENT from your utility company…No need to wait and depend on your utility companies when you have your own power. There are several options which are affordable.

Option # 1 (Permanent Solar Install on your home)

A permanent solar install can be a little expensive just looking at average cost but after many federal and state incentives for homeowners investing in renewable energy the install can become very affordable. The great thing about using solar is that your home will generate its own power without the need of a utility company. Matter of fact, you can even earn money from the utility company when you produce more power than you actually use…this is called “Net Metering”. Another advantage of going solar is that Solar Panels continue to generate power for your home even in the snow! No more Power Outages due to winter storms.

Option # 2 (Portable Solar System)

A portable solar system can be used to power small electronic devices  during a power outage such as a portable heater, a small refrigerator, lamps, laptops, radios, and etc. Whatever you decide is the most important thing to have where there is a power outage.

Feel free to take a few steps in the right direction by getting quotes from our green contractors for solar or wind energy services, energy efficiency audits, or green remodeling projects by going to our homepage and doing a quick search with your zipcode (currently supporting DC, MD, VA only).
